Standing near the entrance of a CVS store on Morris Avenue in Union, NJ, I watched as a young
woman stepped out of her car and walked briskly towards the entrance. I reached out to her with a flyer in my hand and said, “Excuse me Miss, would you like to Dine for a Cause?”
She looked at me curiously and said, “What is this all about?”, and that was my opening. I took a
breath and explained to her all about this fundraising event. This was last summer when I met Jennifer, the volunteer coordinator for the American Cancer Fund. She helped me reach out to people and raise awareness about the myriad ways individuals can make a difference and join in to help people who are living with Cancer. As a volunteer, I informed people that by simply dining at one of their favorite restaurants, and bringing the flyer with them when they arrived, a portion of their proceeds would be donated to the American Cancer Fund.
Many people were excited to learn that such a small act would be able to contribute to the fight against Cancer. That is the beauty of volunteering. Simple choices often help alter a person’s future.
The American Cancer Fund works to educate and provide resources to individuals diagnosed with every form of Cancer, including Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, and Prostate Cancer.
In one afternoon, I spoke to about 45 people. Every person who decided to “Dine for a Cause” made a difference that day. If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to Jennifer Adams at Jennifer@americancancerfund.org and ask what you can do today to make a difference. Also, if you would love to volunteer but just don’t seem to have the extra time available, there is always an option to give back easily by donating to ACF online: https://americancance2.wpenginepowered.com/donate-online.
