Remembering Mildred G Fiegel

1914-2022

September 24, 2022 Obituary: Mildred Beverly Fiegel, born Sept. 9, 1914 in New York City to Abraham and Essie (Kliminowsky) Goldman. Mildred was predeceased by her 2 brothers; James Goldman (1900-1958) and Harry Goldman (1903-2005). She was married in 1944 to David G. Fiegel, they divorced in 1974.

It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of Mildred G. Fiegel in Seminole, FL. She was not only a breast cancer survivor but she was also the mother of our founding board member and CFO, Shari Lerer. She passed peacefully on September 24, 2022 at the wonderful age of 108, after complications from a fall. Mildred was a much loved Elementary School teacher in Monroe, CT. She was honored by the Town of Monroe upon her retirement with a proclamation naming a day for her. In 1936 she graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan with a BA and from Columbia Teachers College with a Master’s in Education. She began her educational career as a New York City school teacher. She was an early member of Hadassah and the Anti-Defamation League. A great lover of music, she taught and played piano for many years.

Mildred Fiegel loved travel, gardening, antiquing, eating anything chocolate, and the theater but most of all she loved her four daughters; Elena ‘Miki’ (Jim) Picinich, Shari (Henry Stryder) Lerer, Donna (David) Morgen and Bonnie Fiegel along with her grandchildren Scott (Shannon) Morgen and Kathryn ‘Kadi’ Picinich. She believed in raising strong and independent daughters, which she did. ‘Roots and wings’ was her motto. Mildred met her first great grandchild, Carter Morgen, this past year.

Mildred Fiegel's funeral has been postponed due to the impending hurricane. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to this organization. American Cancer Fund – www.americancancerfund.org or checks to American Cancer Fund, PO Box 7262, Hillsborough, NJ 08844-7262
